Extract from the journal of a trip from Philadelphia to New Orleans by way of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. : 1799.

Journal, in French with translation, describes traveling overland from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, Pa., and from there by the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers to New Orleans in search of commercial possibilities. At various stops the journal includes lists of goods and prices, building costs, and boat construction possibilities. The journal is unsigned but research indicates that it was written by Charles Brugiere and or James Berthoud, Louis Tarascon's clerks. Tarascon sent the two men on this business expedition to ascertain the possibility of establishing a ship building business to serve the area. The journal includes a reprint of a May 13, 1906 newspaper article on the story of Shippingport, and photocopies of a picture of Louis Tarascon.
